Camp Collar Shirts in Nigeria: Why They Beat Regular Shirts in Lagos Heat
The camp collar is the most practical shirt silhouette for Nigerian weather — open at the throat, boxy through the body, built to move air. Here is how to wear one well.

Walk through Lagos on any weekday and you'll see the same battle everywhere: shirts that were designed for London or Milan losing badly to 32° heat and 80% humidity. Stiff collars, fused plackets, close-fitting sleeves — none of it was made for here.
The camp collar shirt was. It's the silhouette we keep returning to at Realmode, and this is why.
What makes a camp shirt a camp shirt
Three things: an open, notched collar that lies flat without a top button; a boxy, straight-hem cut you wear untucked; and short or relaxed sleeves cut wide enough for air to move. The collar is the point — there's no band pressing at your throat, so the shirt sits open and cool all day.
Our Contrast-Stitch Camp Shirt is the reference cut: jet-black suiting traced with hand-guided white topstitching, twin flap pockets, corozo buttons. The Olive Camp Shirt is the quieter everyday version.
How it should fit
Roomy, not sloppy. The shoulder seam should sit at or just past your shoulder bone, and the hem should end mid-fly — long enough to look finished untucked, short enough not to swallow you. Our cuts run relaxed; if you're between sizes, size down. Garment measurements are on every product page's size guide.
Three ways to wear one in Lagos
Work: camp shirt buttoned to one below the collar, tailored trousers, loafers. The open collar reads intentional, not casual, when the fabric is a suiting weight.
Weekend: fully open over a fitted singlet, drawstring trousers like our Patchstripe Drawstring Trousers, sandals.
Set: the zero-thought option — a matching shirt-and-trouser set like the Script-Print Camp Set is one decision that looks like five.
